WHAT MAKES A GREAT BASEBALL PLAYER?

There are a lot of elements that go into being a great baseball player. At every level, players learn that they have strengths they can maximize and opportunities for improvement. The best players learn to get the most out of their skill set.

This periodic table outlines the foundational elements that go into EVERY player. In some cases, the elements are evident and easy to see and measure. Yes, some elements are rare and hard to quantify or see with the naked eye. But they are there. All of these elements feed into the iconic ‘5-tool-player’ label, the established 20-80 scouting scale…and any scouting write-up or statistical chart.

This Periodic Table of Baseball helps to define the core attributes:

  • Hitting / Hitting for Power
  • Throwing / Pitching
  • Running
  • Fielding
  • Character & Makeup

It’s important to point out that Diamond Kinetics SwingTracker and PitchTracker metrics are included here because they help players measure and improve their core hitting and throwing elements – and that can translate into more winning on game day. DK is here to help.
