Through the DK Lens – Weekend Highlights

The Perfect Game All America Classic weekend stood up to the name. The energy around Petco Park during practice and BP on Friday & Saturday was off the charts, leading into a great Home Run Derby and another classic game on Sunday night with the West Squad coming from behind to win 4-2 over a strong team from the East.

Players at the PG All American Classic tapped their Diamond Kinetics technology all weekend long, as they have during the spring and summer showcases, training, and tournaments alike. During this time of year, DK tools are great for benchmarking key performance metrics that help scouts and coaches understand a player’s skill set, consistency, and projectability.

The SwingTracker bat sensor outlines a hitter’s hand speed, barrel speed, acceleration, and swing-path – telling scouts and coaches if he has legit speed, power, and quickness to be successful at the next level. For example, the eventual HR Derby Champ and MVP for the weekend, Drew Bowser, swung his Rawlings Smart-Bat with embedded SwingTracker sensor all weekend – during BP,  in the Derby and in-game on Sunday night. We were able to capture his metrics all weekend and they tell the tale of a great hitter. Fast hands generating exceptional barrel speed – on a positive attack angle generated the exit velocity and launch angle that resulted in a double during the game and 7 home runs in the derby. It’s a case study in how to swing to do damage.

Meanwhile, the Diamond Kinetics PitchTracker Smart Baseball excited the nation’s top high-school pitchers as they learned about its capabilities – tracking velocity, spin rate, spin direction and more. PitchTracker can help pitchers break down the nuances in their throwing motion to learn just how changes in arm angle, mechanics, and grip can impact on the velocity and break of a ball.
